The "Hands On Trade Association" offers several kinds of insurance for body workers (and bodywork instructors).  http://www.handsontrade.com

For $160.00 a year -- www.handsontrade.com  and for $10.00 more you can insure your yoga studio for the year  - and actually name them on the policy.

From their website: Our comprehensive insurance plan covers you wherever you work, whether in your own office, a spa or resort, at a sporting event, clinic, shopping mall or corporate office. We’ve even got you covered if you’re working outside your local area. It’s a plan that’s as mobile as your practice, and can take you everywhere you need to be!  We cover more than 250 techniques in the fields of Massage, Bodywork, Esthetics, Cosmetology and Nail Services.

If you live in the US or Canada, the International Association of Reiki Practitioners (IARP) offers general liability insurance for IET teachers and practitioners.  You can read more and apply at http://www.iarp.org. The cost of membership, including insurance coverage is currently about $300/year.

The following information is provided by Mike Wanner (March, 2005):

ABMP in the United States claims to cover IET -

The following information is from Carmel O'Callaghan (April, 2004):

Insurance for IET to practice and/or teach in Ireland and England

Price date: 26th April 2004.

 If you are already qualified and insured for another therapy ask first if IET can be added on.

Company:  H&L Balen, Malvern, Worcestershire (see contact information below, from Anita Cotterall)

 For individual policy for IET: England £120,  Ireland £ 171.

 The cover includes:

·        £ 1 million

·        Public Liability

·        Professional indemnity

·        Legal expenses

·        Malpractice

·        Legal help line

·        Professional impropriety

·        4 weeks cover in another country per year

·        other policies available to cover income etc.

Carmel is with this company through the IFPA ( International Federation Professional Aromatherapists) my premium is much lower then £171.  This is the company that Carrolls and Sheridans use.

Regarding Insurance for IET in UK:

 

As Carmel has said, H&L Balen are willing to cover IET however, they have changed their business name and address so up to date details are as follows:

Balens do a lot of ‘Block’ schemes for Complementary Therapies, so if IET practitioners are also members of eg The Reiki Association they can have IET added to their cover. Balens do include teaching in their cover BUT if you want to work with animals there is an insurance loading for this. (20% last year) The staff at Balens are very helpful & it’s best to talk to someone to make sure that you get the best deal. They will also insure for IET if this is the only therapy a Practitioner uses. As an individual this will be dearer than going through a block scheme.

 

If Practitioners are members of Independent Professional Therapists International (IPTI) they can have insurance through them for IET. However, IPTI do not include cover for teaching – there is a loading for this (£80.00 last year for no more than 36 teaching days a year)
