BeHold

BeHold is a non-profit project committed to helping those who help others. Our ultimate goal is to revolutionize the human services industry, to spearhead a shift in values from one that consumes its workers to one that regards every human as a precious resource. Our three founders are Andrea Dunham, Vicki Frederiksen, and Keith Horwitz.

Andrea Dunham is an IET Master-Instructor, ordained Interfaith Minister, Spiritual Response Therapist, published writer and international performance artist. She is co-founder of two nonprofit organizations: BeHold in Los Angeles, CA and the Blackout Arts Collective in New York City. She holds a B.A. from UC Berkeley and M.A. from NYU and has worked extensively in education and the arts with at-risk youth. She currently is focusing on bringing the healing energy of IET to the people of LA, focusing on the caregivers and human services workers supported by BeHold.

Vicki Frederiksen, Integrated Energy Therapy Master Instructor, Master Hypnotherapist, and Advanced Level Reiki Practitioner.  Vicki has been working with holistic healing modalities since 1996.  She is co-founder of BeHold, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting human services workers using IET and self-empowerment techniques.  In addition to her work with BeHold and her private practice, she currently facilitates energy sessions at WeSpark, a local cancer support center.

With her work in the community and with individuals, Vicki knows that it is the remembering of who and what we really are that activates wisdom and healing from within.

Keith Horwitz is an ordained Interfaith Minister and an IET Master Instructor.  After nearly ten years in the advertising industry Keith decided to follow his passion of helping others and in 2001 left advertising to devote his life and career to healing others.  In 2003 he co-founded BeHold, a non-profit dedicated to helping those in the Human Service fields.  Keith has been actively involved helping at-risk youth since 1992.  He has been studying world cultures and religions in appreciation of their diversity, and in 2003 was ordained as and Interfaith Minister. After four years of study at the Agape International Spiritual Center, Keith graduated and received his license as an Agape Licensed Spiritual Practitioner (ALSP) in 2007.  For more information, see www.keithhorwitz.com

About BeHold:

BeHold serves to hold a light of recognition on the vital but struggling field of service. Human service workers embody the heart of social change. They ease suffering, provide catalysts for growth, and see to the well-being of society’s most neglected, indigent and invisible members. However, their work is largely unsustainable because of excessive demands on their energy, strength and resources. While we may not be able to directly change the structure or resources of an organization, we can definitely impact their workers’ own understanding of who they are and how to be of service. 

We are seeking to bring a holistic model of self-healing and empowerment to the human services field. Professional caregivers working within current models of service suffer alarming rates of burnout. A contributing factor is the feeling of failure that human service workers can experience when their clients are not responding to their support. This can create cynicism and blame toward clients, and hopelessness and worthlessness toward themselves. They become depleted and
ineffective. With this dynamic in play, human services is not a sustainable field. 

BeHold aims to revitalize the human services industry by bringing Integrated Energy Therapy (IET) sessions to care providers. IET teaches that we should always care for and energize ourselves before attempting to reach out to others. This is the model of service without sacrifice that we are embodying and teaching to our clients. IET also teaches us that the results our clients experience are a reflection of their own readiness and not a function of our abilities: all results are client-paced.
